Another Reason Why I'm Doing This

I'm a little worried.

My wife, daughter, and I were walking around Istanbul Airport early this year when it hit me: If we’re not careful, we’ll end up on the wrong side of income inequality. I had long come to believe that the gap between rich and poor would widen quite dramatically over the next few decades, but I equally believed I would be on the right side of it.

In the Istanbul Airport, I realised that perhaps we wouldn’t be. The cheapest burger chain coffee cost €6. A plain croissant could not be found below €16. We had €1 left in spare cash and spent two hours trying to find something we could buy with it. Nothing was priced below a euro. Not even chewing gum. Everything in the airport was expensive.
